Research & Development Technician
DESCRIPTION
This is an exciting opportunity to work for a small, friendly, fast-paced start-up medical device company with a motivating mission to help babies born with congenital heart disease by developing best-in-class devices alongside pediatric cardiologists and surgeons. The company is headquartered in San Diego, CA and maintains a network of advisors, active board members, academic, and industry partnerships in support of device development.
This role is a full-time R&D Technician. The responsibilities of the R&D Technician are to support and execute a variety of development and engineering activities which mainly focus on prototyping, assembly, inspection and testing. Work to include, but not limited to, incoming inspection of components, building prototypes for testing, executing test methods, and assembling finished goods for clinical use. The technician must be able to work independently and execute tasks in accordance with written instructions, drawings, protocols, specifications or engineering instructions. Must be able to work within a quality management system.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Works in a multi-disciplinary, collaborative team environment to develop novel device designs in the field of pediatric cardiology
Participates on product development teams throughout the research and development process
Provides creative input and present technical solutions during the design and development processes
Assists in the design and development of medical devices and manufacturing processes
Assists in the manufacture of finished medical devices in a quality-controlled environment
Assists with product troubleshooting on the assembly line
Supports R&D in the manufacture and testing of engineering prototypes
Aids in the design of fixtures and other manufacturing and fabrication tools
Assists Quality in performing incoming inspection of components
Generates, collects, maintains and presents data from engineering tests
Understands, embraces, and ensures compliance to relevant Quality Systems and applicable government and industry regulations
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
High school graduate, or equivalent
2-10 years of relevant experience
A positive, team-oriented personality, with strong follow-through and a “can do” attitude
Enjoys being creative and finding new solutions to problems
Must be dependable and have a strong work ethic and good organizational skills
Familiarity working within a quality-controlled environment
High attention to detail; comfortable speaking up when issues are found or when unsure of how to proceed
Good verbal and written communication
Good working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software (such as Word/Excel or Docs/Sheets)
PREFERRED
Knowledge and/or experience in medical device development a plus
Proficient in working with small parts under a microscope
Proficient with measurement instruments for small parts, such as micrometers and calipers
Process development or manufacturing experience is a plus

Expected Hours: 40 per week
Pay: Hourly
